While wading Roaring Fork, I rounded a bend a came across this beautiful scenic of sunlight beaming through thick forest and onto lush, mossy boulders within the river. The temperature variant between the water and the air was such that low-lying fog was hanging just above the watercourse. The conditions allowed sunlight to become a tangible element within the frame.
Roaring Fork is a mountain stream originating atop Mount Le Conte and dropping some 2500+ feet in two miles. Just north of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, visitors can drive into Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, a one-way, six-mile loop road, to access the river. The terrain is difficult on foot, but wading the stream can provide outstanding scenics that truly represent, to me, Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
