Story:  10 Poems Every North Carolinian Should Read, #6 The Men Who Raised the Dead by Ron Rash

One of the neatest things that can happen with publishing opportunities is when a photo editor pairs your images to a person or place that you were unfamiliar with, but should certainly learn more about.  That was just the case when Our State Magazine paired an old photo of mine from Upper Whitewater Falls with a poem written by Ron Rash regarding the flooding of the Jocassee Gorges.  Rash is a Professor of Appalachian Cultural Studies at Western Carolina University, a poet, short story writer and novelist.  His work focuses around the Appalachians and the stories that play out within, and I find the work that I’ve read to be really fascinating.
