ARTICLE:  The Earthest Edge

I was honored to place a photograph within the Winter 2021 issue of National Parks Magazine, the publication of the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA).  The article, The Earthest Edge, begins on page #46 and chronicles the author’s search for solitude on Cape Cod National Seashore.  Spending a night at Peg’s Shack and recalling the explorations and adventures of Thoreau, the article is a beautiful piece on both the natural environment of Cape Cod and the history of those who have gone in search of solitude and space.

This photograph was taken on Coast Guard Beach at low tide.  The receding ocean tide carved out these really long, winding ripples in the sand.  The low light of morning gave them dimension by highlighting the eastern edge and placing the western edge of each ripple into deep shadow.  This was my first trip to the Cape Cod National Seashore.  My sister was attending a Myofascial conference at a nearby location.  I decided to tag along and explore the National Seashore while she was in class each day.  Then, I would pick her up just before sunset and we would rush out to some nearby location to witness sunset each evening.  It was a very neat trip.  It’s always hard to match the excitement and discovery that comes from any first trip to a new area, and this trip to Cape Cod National Seashore is not likely to be any different!
