Tonight is the Full Wolf Moon. Here’s the January 2019 Wolf Moon reflecting into Shallowbag Bay near the Elizabeth II replica ship in Manteo, North Carolina. The Elizabeth II is part of Roanoke Island Festival Park. The replica Elizabeth II ship is representative of an English merchant vessel that would’ve been part of the seven ship voyage of 1585 sent by Sir Walter Raleigh. The Elizabeth II is 69-feet long and weighs nearly one-hundred tons.
One of the benefits of staying within historic downtown Manteo is the immediate proximity to the water. On this particular evening, my sister and I walked downtown from our rental property and began exploring the beautifully calm and reflective conditions. My original thought was to photograph the Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse during blue hour with the full moon above. The early moonrise, however, was blocked by thick horizon-level clouds. Therefore, I quickly readjusted to focus my lens on the Elizabeth II replica ship when the moon reemerged into the darkening night sky.
