During winter 24′ a strange 4-day stretch of weather left the Outer Banks shrouded in thick fog along the Atlantic Ocean. It stuck around all morning and into the early afternoon. I wish, in hindsight, that I had noted the unique set of weather conditions that caused this to happen.
For several days I wasn’t sure what to do or where to go for this unique-to-me combination of weather. I tried lighthouses and dunes and everything I could think. It wasn’t until I stood underneath the Outer Banks Fishing Pier during blue hour that I knew I finally had something.
The horizon was completely obscured; the ocean limitless. The fishing pier was a typical roller coaster of battered wood pilings; a brave structure in an aggressive ocean. I used a longish exposure to smooth out the water as much as I could without completely losing texture. The resultant frame was one of my favorite from my winter adventures in the Outer Banks.
