Story: VISTAS Photo Essay (p.#36-37)
July / August brought me the opportunity to contribute a photograph of the Wilson Creek headwaters flowing underneath of the Tanawha Trail in the Blue Ridge Mountains to the VISTAS monthly photo essay in WNC Magazine. The Tanawha Trail is a roughly thirteen mile footpath from Beacon Heights to Julian Price Memorial Lake, paralleling the Blue Ridge Parkway for much of its length. Several headwater stream crossings feature artful wooden bridges like that pictured. This particular crossing had always shown dry for me in the past. On this particular afternoon in early summer, however, heavy rains succeeded in bringing ample flow down through the rocky drops and underneath of the wooden bridge. I only had about ten minutes to capture this one before the rains pummeled me again; gotta love the Southern Appalachians!
I apologize for the quick cell phone snap–just wanted to get a post out for those who are interested in the magazine! A big thanks to everyone over at WNC Magazine for the opportunity to contribute this month, and to all of you folks who have interacted with my photography over the years who continue to make this dream a possibility for me. Thanks!
