I finally broke free from the desk and wondered around the Potomac River Tidal Basin in Washington D.C. this past Sunday morning. The area recently experienced a blizzard that dropped over 30″ of snow, followed shortly thereafter by a rather pleasant warming trend. The shallow waters of the Tidal Basin remained frozen. The dominating feature of the landscape was a mass of construction cranes on the horizon just behind the Jefferson Memorial. I couldn’t help but smile a bit as I thought no matter how much garbage folks talk about this particular city, it just keeps on going about its business every single day largely unfazed.
