Story: Drawn to the Light by Lane DeGregory (p.74-75)
A story centered around the restoration of Bodie Island Lighthouse, an historic structure along the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and the return of several generations of lightkeepers and family members to once again climb the stairs to the tower. The request for one of my older images of the light was surprisingly fulfilling if I’m being honest. Taken several years before, this image was shot on a family vacation when I was just learning the craft and mulling over where my own motivations fell within this avid hobby of photography. To have this image chosen to feature a story within one of my favorite magazines really reinforces for me that I made the right decision to pursue photography, particularly at such a time when I was just beginning my own small business and looking for signs that I was making sound choices that were more than just pixie dust and hope.
