Every month Our State Magazine runs a front feature on a piece of Carolina art, food, music, people or places. The June 2014 issue ran with the topic: Carolina Moon. I was very happy to receive a request to run my Carolina Blue Moon photograph as a two page spread for this story, complete with a monthly lunar calendar at the bottom. Why special? I captured this image with my mother at my side on a morning that neither of us could have planned or predicted. A setting supermoon found placement within the frame just as the blue hues of morning brought light and color to a really spectacular scene at Julian Price Memorial Lake along the Blue Ridge Parkway. We both (she is also an avid photographer) clicked furiously for the few moments before the moon disappeared and the sun replaced the landscape with it’s warming light.
